#laborday2023 in the #lakeerieislands➡️ This season had a spectacular show with #TBDBITL : the OSU Marching Band and was loaded w decadent meals including #lobsterbisquesoup from the famed @boardwalkpib (where I’ve shot special features before) 🌸 I took in the end of a wildly successful season and was able to open the pages to the juicy #fictionnovel I’ve been reading all summer. I worked on #laborday morning and ceremoniously turned the blender on for lunch: I treated myself to a #frozenpinacolada 🍹in the name of Jimmy Buffet complete w a #spicedeumfloat while blogging away #poolside on my beach towels with my book. This year I raised that glass intentionally to the work I’ve done straight out of high school, through college, through small market television, in the ocean, in the pool, on the yoga mat, in print and the social media/digital market. There are people who opt for short-cuts. Work always translates. #values #character #integrity Always “work” on those items other than one’s resume for they; along with talent, can not be denied.

I did not do the work however of inflating my #poolfloat. That piece of #summergear is still in the box, which is now in storage. Cheers 🍹 especially to my #unionorganized family members.

The devastation happened again. An #oceanadventurer, a #scubadiver, died in the ocean. The body of a Michigan man was pulled off of the Spiegel Grove #wrecksite in the #FlaKeys along the #FlaKeysWreckTrek. I read the news from an the Palm Beach newsroom @lizquirantes’ feed this afternoon.

That marks three #oceanadventurers who died in those specific waters in the past eight days. A teenager free diving in the middle keys, a dive master on the Vandenberg seven miles off of the coast of Key West is lost and now a man from Michigan perished on a ship just as formidable.

As I swam this evening digesting the horror the sun blazed into my goggles. They fogged up. I could see about five feet under water and my hands sometimes on a kick board.

I could see blurry visions of about six lifeguards.
I swam and recalled repeatedly throwing up on assignment.
I felt the late afternoon salad in my digestive system.
I imagined the horror and all of the elements which could go awry.

Losing perception of which way is up or down, running out of air, the regulator breaking loose from the mouth and choking to death on saltwater, a hose popping off, heart attack and more.
All great fears I have had.

Ocean conditions are not tepid. The more these events unfold the more I can justify #C-PTSD the recreation gave life to a very long decade ago, a blurb in my existence. Today everyone in Ohio is afforded the chance to exercise their part in democracy and vote in this August #specialelection This is the only second time I’ve voted which I can recollect. The first time was the Key West Mayoral race with Craig Cates while living in Old Town. We were guided by management in local television not to register and not to vote. My formative years were spent in a climate where we could not spend our work day without interviewing a presidential hopeful. Hillary Clinton joined us at the pumpkin patch, Dick Cheney popped in to pheasant hunt, Laura Bush made her way for a last minute rally of the conservative Republicans, we were all there watching Oprah rally for Obama as the students at U of I built enough momentum to vote him in as the nation’s first African American president. The grassroots campaigning was never-ending and they didn’t want me delivering the evening news w partiality towards one candidate or the other. To be objective I opted out. This summer has been rocked with tragedy in and around the water, namely in the ocean at dangerous depths. Last week two teenagers were spearfishing off of Duck Key, free diving in twenty-five feet of water with their spearguns and one died. The details of the tragedy were not released. Seven miles off of the coast of Key West a search has been underway since last Wednesday (according to CBS News and other outlets) for a missing Lost Reef Adventures dive master. He disappeared in four atmospheres of water at the Vandenberg wreck site. This on top of the OceanGate expedition implosion. I jotted down an editorial. Drowning in the ocean and loss of losing my life has always been a fear of mine which looms largely. The link’s in my bio➡️

All of my PR work is under this label a DBA. Josie in Paradise, DBA is actually my blog (spun off my newspaper in Key West) which turned into a TV Show. The Ltd., is simply my name and charges depend on services ie. My voice and face versus collecting content and applying to which channels, feeds and apps. In addition the task is necessary to take into account whether or not I can do the photography and graphics quickly; or I need to bring in others. FYI

Saturday Morning ☀️ Unsolicited reviews - My first training environment was in a Top 10 Media Market - Dallas TX where I cut my teeth running the teleprompter for CNN’s Chief Domestic Correspondent Jim Acosta and Fox News International Correspondent Mike Tobin taught me how to “get on camera” and show people why we’re there. Later that year, Former Miami Cop and WTSP Anchorman Reginald Roundtree sat me up on the anchor desk and had the production crew work late so I could “make a tape”. Today I’m working under my own label in swimwear in between making my puppy breakfast and lunch. I have a couple of special projects to wrap up and its time to get back out there.
